ABOUT ANGER COUNSELLING

What is Anger Management Counselling?

Anger is a normal emotion, but when it becomes frequent, intense or harmful, it can damage relationships, health and professional life. Counselling helps you understand the real trigger beneath anger (hurt, fear, helplessness, overload) and teaches safer ways to respond.

  • Identify anger triggers, early warning signs and body signals
  • Work on thoughts that escalate anger (CBT-based tools)
  • Improve communication, boundaries and conflict handling
  • Build emotional regulation and calming skills for daily life

PRACTICAL TIPS

Anger Management Tips You Can Start Today

These tips are not a replacement for counselling, but they can reduce intensity and give you more control in the moment.

1) Pause the body first Drink water, unclench jaw, drop shoulders, slow breathing for 60 seconds. Control the body to control the reaction.
2) Use a “timeout” sentence Say: “I want to talk, but I need 10 minutes to calm down.” Then return and talk.
3) Track your early warning signs Notice heat, tight chest, fast speech, clenched fists. Catch anger early before it becomes an outburst.
4) Replace blame with need Instead of “You always…”, try “I feel ___ and I need ___.” It reduces fights and improves listening.
5) Reduce vulnerability factors Poor sleep, hunger, alcohol/substance use and overload increase anger. Fix basics to reduce triggers.
6) Journal the pattern Write: trigger → thought → feeling → action → consequence. This builds insight and improves control.
7) Practise calming daily (not only during anger) 5–10 minutes mindfulness/breathing daily builds baseline calm and reduces reactive anger.
8) Repair after conflict If you reacted strongly, apologise specifically and plan one change for next time. Repair restores relationships.
