TA Life Position Visual Map

This 2 × 2 map shows where each of your four independent scores sits conceptually. The highlighted box is the highest score (or highest scores when tied).

Descriptive map only: this is not a diagnostic personality map. People may move between life positions across situations and relationships.

Growth direction: returning toward mutual OK–OK

The aim is not to feel OK–OK every moment. The practical goal is to notice when you move into another position and, when safe and appropriate, return toward self-respect plus respect for the other person.

I’m OK – You’re not OK
I’m not OK – You’re OK
I’m not OK – You’re not OK
I’m OK – You’re OKSelf-respect + respect for others + appropriate boundaries

Question-by-Question Personal Reflection

After scoring, each statement can become a small counselling-style reflection: what pattern the statement explores, how your response may be understood, a more balanced reframe, and one practical action.

Why we do not call these “growth mindset” or “fixed mindset” answers: growth/fixed mindset is a different psychological theory. To keep this Transactional Analysis questionnaire conceptually clean, this report uses the terms Strength to maintain, Worth exploring and Growth area instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

About this Transactional Analysis life-position self-reflection tool.

1. What are the four Transactional Analysis life positions?
They are commonly described as I’m OK–You’re OK, I’m OK–You’re not OK, I’m not OK–You’re OK and I’m not OK–You’re not OK. They reflect broad ways of viewing the worth or adequacy of oneself and other people.
2. How is this questionnaire scored?
Six statements represent each life-position tendency. Every statement is rated from 0 to 4. Each life position therefore receives an independent score from 0 to 24. The highest score is shown as the highest-scoring tendency within this questionnaire; all four scores remain visible because people may show more than one pattern.
3. Why are the questions mixed?
The four categories are deliberately interspersed so that participants are less likely to recognise a block of questions and deliberately shape their responses toward a particular result.
4. Why is there no pie chart?
The four scores are independent. A person can show more than one tendency, so the scores are displayed as separate bars rather than misleadingly forcing them into portions of one total.
5. Is this a clinical or diagnostic psychological test?
No. This version is an educational self-reflection questionnaire based on Transactional Analysis concepts. It is not presented as a validated psychometric or diagnostic instrument, and no clinical cutoff scores are used.
6. Can my life position change?
Yes. People may show different patterns in different relationships, settings and periods of life. The result should be treated as a current reflection rather than a permanent personality label.
7. Why are responses not labelled as “growth mindset” or “fixed mindset”?
Growth mindset and fixed mindset come from a different psychological theory. This questionnaire is organised around Transactional Analysis life positions, so the personalised feedback uses terms such as strength to maintain, worth exploring and growth area rather than mixing the two constructs.
